There are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, sadness, and acceptance. Well, I would say there are 6 stages for getting over your ex; the sixth one is blocking them on every social media platform. No stalking their Spotify, no stalking their Instagram stories, no checking for new followers; freedom is next. It is a big, but important step to take. And it is no easy job. Who hasn't been there? The person is no longer part of your life, and it seems impossible to completely let them go when you knew everything about them. So you cling to the nearest thing you can have: their online presence.

There is a duality when getting over an ex; logically, you know they were not compatible with you, some of them might have even been terrible for you, but the familiarity of it makes it hard to let go. You catch yourself wondering about their lives and thinking about what could have been. Well, I am here to tell you, it could have been a lot of things, but none of them would have been good for you. Let's be real, you are a diva, and they are probably asking AI for a proper response to the heartfelt message you sent them. There is no possible way something good can come out of that relationship.

Another bittersweet aspect of trying to get over your ex is realizing that deep down, you enjoyed the unpredictability of it. One day you might get an absolute sweetheart; another day you might get the absolute bare minimum treatment. Wake up, diva!! You deserve someone who is head over heels about you, someone who will show you off to all their friends, surprise you with the most thoughtful dates, and will go above and beyond to get you the things you want. And listen, there is no judgment here; I personally have done some questionable things while trying to get over my ex. But there comes a point when one has to let go of their inner Carry Bradshaw and step up. The bar must be high and we must wait until someone comes along to set it even higher.
